NafisaRangers are preparing to go head to head with Celtic in the race to sign one of the Scottish Premiership’s brightest defensive prospects.
Reports indicate that both Glasgow giants are closely monitoring Dundee defender Luke Graham following an impressive campaign at Dens Park. The 22 year old has attracted strong interest ahead of the summer window, with both clubs believed to be keeping tabs on his situation.
Graham was the subject of a club record offer from Championship side Portsmouth in January. Queens Park Rangers, Aberdeen and Hearts were also linked with the versatile defender, who is comfortable at centre back and can also operate at left back.
Dundee manager Steven Pressley addressed the speculation last month when Pompey’s interest surfaced. He acknowledged that a bid had arrived and suggested it was turned down. Pressley praised Graham’s development and insisted the club would only consider a sale if their full valuation was met. He credited Dundee’s owners for resisting what he described as very tempting proposals and stressed that the club remained firm in their stance.
Earlier in the season, Pressley drew comparisons between Graham and Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, who is valued at around £37.5 million. Having previously worked with Branthwaite at Carlisle United, Pressley said he sees many similarities between the two and believes Graham has the potential to reach a similarly high level. He added that significant interest would be inevitable if the defender continues on his current path.
Graham enhanced his reputation during a successful loan spell at Falkirk last term, playing a major role in their promotion push under John McGlynn. Since returning to Dundee, he has become a near ever present in Pressley’s side.
With Graham under contract until the summer of 2027 and tipped by many as a future Scotland international, Dundee are bracing themselves for renewed interest. Rangers and Celtic are reportedly prepared to compete with several Championship clubs in what could become one of the most closely watched transfer battles of the summer.
