The Northern Irishman could be returning to the dugout just over a month since he left Celtic Park, with reported discussions over a move to the Saudi Pro League
Former Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is close to returning to work with Saudi Arabian side Al Qadsiah, according to reports.
Rodgers has been out of a job for just over a month since his exit at Celtic, but The Athletic report that he’s close to being back in management, with talks over a move to the Middle East.
Al Qadsiah, currently fifth in the Saudi Pro League, parted with Real Madrid legend Michel on Sunday, and so have a vacancy in their dugout.
Rodgers spent just over two years with Celtic in his second spell in Glasgow, twice winning the Scottish title before leaving in October under heavy criticism from majority shareholder Dermot Desmond.
That followed his four years at City, where he won the FA Cup and twice finished fifth but also oversaw the start of their descent that led to the first of their recent relegations out of the Premier League.
If he completes a switch to Al Qadsiah, it will be the first job outside of the UK of Rodgers’ senior managerial career, which began with Watford nearly 18 years ago.
Al Qadsiah have a number of European stars in their ranks that Rodgers would be coaching, including former Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez, former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl and Italy striker Mateo Retegui.
Last season, in their first campaign in the Saudi Pro League following promotion, Al Qadsiah finished fourth and reached the King’s Cup final, where they lost 3-1 to Al Ittihad, Karim Benzema scoring twice for the victors.
