Ange Postecoglou made some fantastic signings for Celtic as manager.
The Japanese trio of Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate were impeccable finds as the Aussie-Greek opened Celtic’s eyes to a new area of the transfer market.
However, he did sanction a number of forgettable deals. Oliver Abildgaard was one, James McCarthy was definitely another.
Japanese defender Yuki Kobayashi was no different. He was a free transfer from Vissel Kobe but failed to develop his career in Glasgow.
Yuki Kobayashi signs for Jagiellonia Białystok
Kobayashi played seven times for Celtic in total before signing for Portimonense last summer for an undisclosed fee. Now, the Hoops flop has moved on again.
The 24-year-old has made a permanent move to Polish side Jagiellonia Białystok by signing a three-year contract with the club.
Jagiellonia Białystok wrote on their official website: “Jagiellonia Białystok has a new player. Yuki Kobayashi has signed a three-year contract with the Yellow-Reds, with an option to extend it for another year.
The Japanese player has moved to our club on a permanent transfer basis from Portimonense in Portugal. The defender will play with the number 4.”
Where some other Celtic flops are now
We mentioned Abildgaard and McCarthy as some of the worst signings made under the Postecoglou regime at Celtic. So where are they now?
The Danish midfielder’s loan with Celtic was terminated early and he returned to Rubin Kazan, only briefly however as he was sent out again on loan to Hellas Verona.
He now plays with Serie A side Como, who are about to sign Nicolas Kuhn from Celtic for €20m.
McCarthy left Celtic very quietly having saw his contract terminated in August 2024. As of now, he hasn’t found a new club at the age of 34.
