It could be three in, one out as the Hoops transfer window starts with an almighty bang
RB Leipzig are reportedly set to launch a £15m bid for Celtic star Nicolas Kuhn – while the Hoops look to the J-League for their latest signing.
It was always going to be a summer of change at Celtic Park where Brendan Rodgers promised to shuffle the pack but it’s exploded into life like few transfer windows in recent memory.
Kuhn started last season on fire and in January he was being talked about as the next star to shatter the outgoing transfer record with a £25m+ move to the English Premier League.
His form tailed off towards the end of the season with just four Premiership goals since the turn of the year.
But there’s still plenty of interest and it’s claimed Leipzig are readying a £15m bid for the wide man.
Kuhn of course netted a famous double to sink the Germans in the Champions League league phase last season while he also scored a crucial goal against Bayern Munich in the knockout stages before they were cruelly eliminated with one of the final kicks of the ball.
According to the Scottish Sun, that’s been enough to garner Leipzig’s interest and they are weighing up a mega summer move that would dwarf the £3m they paid to sign him in January 2024.
Kuhn still has four years to run on his contract so Celtic will be under no pressure to sell to the first bidder.
The Hoops are in advanced talks to sign forward Benjamin Nygren who could step directly into Kuhn’s shoes while a deal for Fulham striker Callum Osmand is nearly over the line.
But they won’t be the last of the signings, far from it.
According to The Herald, Celtic are set to dip back into the Japanese market for defender Hayato Inamura.
The 23-year-old, currently at Albirex Niigata, is left-sided and can play both at centre-back and left-back.
He’s currently locked in a J-League relegation battle and it’s claimed Celtic are ready to move for him now to bolster Rodgers’ defence and provide two things he is missing with one swoop.
Liam Scales is currently the only naturally left-sided centre-back who featured for the club last season while there is no real backup for Kieran Tierney should Greg Taylor leave.
He would become the latest arrival from Japan after the signings of Daizen Maeda, Kyogo, Reo Hatate, Tomoki Iwata and Yuki Kobayashi.
